Using Coupons

“I don’t have time to clip coupons.”

“Coupons aren’t worth the time and effort.”

“I never find coupons for the items that I use.”

I’ve heard these excuses over and over again.  I might have had the same thoughts at one time, but now I’m a believer in the value of coupons.  I saved over $10,000 in one year by using coupons and buying on sale!

It takes just a few minutes each week to clip coupons, print online coupons, and organize them.  (If you have a good organization system for your coupons, you won’t have to waste time later trying to find the coupon you need.)  Once the clipping is done, you’ll spend a few more minutes planning your shopping trips before heading to the store.

I look at it like this:  Let’s say that I spend two hours clipping, filing, and planning before I go to the store.  Then, by using coupons and shopping the sales, I save $60 at the checkout.  I have essentially earned $30/hour for my time and efforts.  Not bad!  It can certainly be worth your time to use coupons.

I clip coupons when my kids are busy playing, when they’re doing schoolwork, or after they are in bed.  I can also clip while watching television or talking on the phone.  Sometimes I file coupons while riding in the car.  I try to multi-task, so I can get my coupons clipped and organized without taking time away from my family.

One of the nice benefits of using coupons is that it has allowed my family to try many products and brands that we wouldn’t have been able to afford otherwise.  I used to buy mostly store brands, but using coupons has enabled me to buy national brands for far less than store brands.  We’ve also been able to purchase products that we normally wouldn’t have splurged on.  With coupons and sale prices, I’ve paid just pennies for lots of new products.  With a good sale and the right coupon, I’ve actually gotten countless items FREE.

Now, let’s talk about where to get coupons.
