Wednesday 101: How To Spend Less By SLOWING DOWN!
How To Spend Less By Slowing Down!
If you want to lower your spending, never shop when you’re in a hurry! Go to the store when you have time to look for closeouts and clearance items. Go to the store when you have time to compare prices to get the best deal.
When I shop, I take the time to scan the shelves for my options. Then, I compare prices based on brand and size. Many times, I’ve found that the smaller-sized product costs more than the larger one. You just have to slow down and take the time to find the best deal. I’m not saying that it takes hours to shop. Just take a few extra seconds to make a smart decision.
Here’s a scene that happens often: I’m standing in the grocery aisle comparing the products and prices. Another shopper flies past me and grabs an item off the shelves without even slowing down. Sometimes, the other shopper doesn’t even look at the price! I don’t know about you, but we work too hard for our money to throw it away on a poor purchasing decision.
I wrote an article last year called Want To Find The Deals? Slow Down!! Click on this link to see some pictures and examples of why you should take your time at the grocery store.
This is a post in my series “How To Spend Less”. Here are the previous posts:

Tuesday Topic: What Is Stockpiling?
What is “stockpiling”? Before I started couponing, I thought all stockpilers were people who gathered large quantities of food because they feared the end of the world as we know it. LOL. Now, however, I realize that many people stockpile food because it saves money!
A stockpiler looks for items to reach their lowest price. When an item reaches its lowest price, the good stockpiler buys several of that product. When one is used up, the stockpiler has more on hand that he/she bought at a low price instead of having to go buy more at full price.
Here’s an example from my own stockpile: We eat pancakes and waffles often. If we run out of syrup, I usually buy Kroger brand syrup because it is cheaper. Before Christmas, I found Hungry Jack syrup ON SALE and I had coupons. I purchased five bottles of Hungry Jack syrup for only $1.50 each. While at Kroger this week, I noticed that Hungry Jack syrup is currently $4.19/bottle. I don’t have to pay $4.19 because I stockpiled the national brand syrup when it was $1.50 – and that price is cheaper than the Kroger brand syrup!
That’s what stockpiling is all about. Buy several of an item when it is cheap, instead of letting yourself run out of the item. If you’re totally out of something, you’ll be forced to pay full price if it isn’t on sale when you need it. I took the picture below several years ago. It shows a stockpile of Finish Dishwashing Detergent, Plastic Bags, Candles, and Diapers. I paid only $.49/box for the Finish, $2.50 each for the packages of diapers, $.50 each for the Ziploc/Hefty bags, and got the candles FREE.

I used these stockpiled items for a while. (I’m still using some of it!) I’m keeping an eye out for those items to get to a low price again. Whenever they do, I buy a few and add to the stockpile. Hopefully, I’ll never run out completely and be forced to pay full price for any of these items!
How about you? Do you stockpile? What good deals have you found for your stockpile? What do others think about your stockpile?
